Kevin Mitchell was still busy at his day job as frontman of alt-rockers Jebediah when, in 1999, he first publicly introduced his alter ego—the folk singer Bob Evans—with a series of low-key solo performances around his hometown of Perth. It took another four years before Bob Evans released his debut solo album, 2003's Suburban Kid, which included a collaboration with fellow Perth luminary Luke Steele from Empire of the Sun. 2013's Familiar Stranger saw Mitchell/Evans expand his sound to more pop-oriented arrangements after the primarily acoustic styling of his first three solo albums.
