Blaze Essentials

Drawing from gospel and R&B, New Jersey's Blaze greatly amplified the spiritual dimensions of house music. Formed in '84 by childhood friends and fellow church members Josh Milan, Kevin Hedge and Chris Herbert, the group signed to Motown for '90's soulful 25 Years Later, a fictional portrait of a black activist. After Herbert left in '91, the duo honed their jazzy deep house and garage across scores of singles—some of which became classics—and best-of collections for American labels like King Street and Slip 'n' Slide, as well as Germany's Playhouse.
