Best of Peter Maxwell Davies

This British composer was a member of the modernist Manchester School, along with artists like Harrison Birtwistle. While Davies had a taste for atonality (check out the Five Pieces, Op. 2), his talent for melodic lines could seduce audiences who might otherwise be wary of contemporary music. His sprightly symphonic imagination persisted into his later years, as his Symphony No. 10 shows.
