New York hardcore is all about heaviness. In the early '80s, bands like Cro-Mags and Agnostic Front added metal-inspired riffs and massive breakdowns to hardcore's rapid-fire assault, causing mayhem in mosh pits across the city. In the decades that followed, proudly brutal bands like Biohazard, Sick of It All and H20 would keep the snarling NYHC spirit alive.
