Best of Memphis Blues
Apple Music

Pre-war Memphis was home to country blues greats like Furry Lewis, Sleepy John Estes, Robert Wilkins—famously covered by The Rolling Stones—and Memphis Minnie. Postwar Memphis gave rise to some of the biggest names in electric blues and was ground zero for the development of rock ‘n' roll. Howlin' Wolf and James Cotton may be more closely associated with Chicago, but they began their recording careers in Memphis. Another Memphis legend, Ike Turner, didn't get proper credit at the time but was the creative force behind the Jackie Brenston single sometimes called the first rock 'n' roll record.
