The ‘80s found jazz getting little respect in music culture, but often it's just that kind of injustice that fuels great artists' creativity. While longstanding greats like Charlie Haden only grew bolder in their musical statements during this decade, up-and-comers like Branford Marsalis began a new school of traditionalism that would soon be dubbed “the young lion movement”.
