August Darnell & Coati Mundi Essentials

The Bronx's August Darnell is a singer/songwriter/producer who has spent over four decades spearheading a witty, idiosyncratic vision of big-band dance music infused with early jazz, musical theatre, funk, disco, rock and world music. One of Darnell's most fruitful collaborations was with arranger/percussionist/vocalist Andy ‘Coati Mundi' Hernandez. Both men worked with the unclassifiable disco-era group Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band, before founding Kid Creole and The Coconuts. Together and apart, Darnell and Hernandez have made an unmistakable mark on pop music.
