At Home With BENEE
New Zealand singer-songwriter BENEE has been creating a serious vibe for her self-isolation. The artists in her playlist, which she has based on the theme “bubble”, range from Radiohead and Björk to A Tribe Called Quest and Erykah Badu, as well as artists from her homeland, including Tiny Ruins and HEAVY CHEST. She tells Apple Music she chose the Wellington trio’s song “Required” because “it’s super chill, I’ve been playing it in my room during isolation. It’s just nice to lie down and listen to—his voice is so smooth.” Still, it’s not all low-key jams. “You Seemed So Happy” by The Japanese House is more upbeat. “I love her voice and the production is sick,” she says. “I’ve just recently found out about her, but I can relate to the lyrics on another level.”
