Time seems to stand still when this Sydney-based pianist and composer plays. Spence creates dreamy, haunting soundscapes, building hypnotic cycles of notes that allow his music to float weightlessly. He's not afraid to utilise technology, sometimes sampling and layering his playing. With his dynamic jazz trio he can work up a head of steam, his rhythmic playing and the intricate interplay between bass and drums driving the sound to dizzying heights and pushing the boundaries of what three instruments might normally accomplish.
