Malian guitarist and singer Ali Farka Toure was among the first African solo artists to shake the world. While often compared to American blues legend John Lee Hooker, Toure has shown his own singular sound and style, from the raucous playing on his earliest recordings, through to the naturally meditative quality he explores on his records with kora player Toumani Diabate.
