About The Reegs

One of two splinter outfits from the ashes of underrated UK band the Chameleons, the Reegs were formed by guitarists Dave Fielding and Reg Smithies after they split in 1987. They were joined by vocalist Gary Lavery and a drum machine for their 1991 debut under their new title. ‘We didn’t do anything for a while after the Chameleons split, I think we both needed to take some time out. There was never any question of us not working together again.’ Fielding had kept busy with production work, the most successful of which was with the Inspiral Carpets. Following the enthusiasm shown by Imaginary Records, they made their first recording with ‘See My Friends’, for a Kinks tribute album. The first of their own material came in the shape of two EPs, which formed the basis of the album. A second collection was released the following year.
