About The Mighty Sparrow

Born Slinger Francisco in Grenada in 1935, Mighty Sparrow moved to his adopted homeland, Trinidad, when he was a year old, and started to perform calypso while still in his teens. At age 20, Sparrow emerged as the leading calypsonian with his hit "Jean and Dinah." In 1958, he began his run as “King of the Calypso World” when he became the only calypsonian to have a triple win in the annual Road March Competition. Sparrow’s popularity grew worldwide afterwards, leading to 1965’s "Congo Man"--one of the most famous soca/calypso recordings ever made. Mighty Sparrow continued to tour and record right into the 2000s.
