Spod

About Spod

Spod is both the name of the band and its frontman, a greasily exuberant Australian version of Har Mar Superstar who is obsessed with sex, scorpions, and declaring things to be awesome. Inspired or possibly scarred for life by hearing the 2 Live Crew song "We Want Some Pussy" in the back of a schoolbus as a boy, Spod the man introduced himself to the world with an album called Taste the Radness on Shock Records in 2003. The album's mixture of electroclash, rock, and juvenilia found an audience, helped by energetic and anarchic live shows featuring the rest of the enigmatically named band: backup vocalists, dancers, and choreographers Krylon and A-Blade, who also go by the collective moniker "Scorpionz of Sex," and guitarist/drummer Andy Clockwise. Spod played the Big Day Out festival in 2004 and also collaborated with Regurgitator for a series of gigs billed as ReSPODutator; they recorded a song together during the Band in the Bubble reality television project. Spod also recorded an EP called Eternal Championz in the home of Regurgitator lead singer Quan Yeomans. In 2007 Spod the man teamed up with Yeomans again to form the hip-hop duo Blox. In 2008 Spod the band released another EP, this time a special, vinyl-only release called Aminals, which completed the circle by featuring their cover of "We Want Some Pussy." ~ Jody Macgregor
