About Shottaz

In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. We started out as a 4 person crew back in 2007. We made major waves on the underground scene in Auckland, NZ, playing alongside the likes of Home Brew and Raiza Biza. We became known as the Dancehall aficionados in NZ before moving to Melbourne. What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Agent Sasco (Assassin), Penthouse Flashback Series: Agent Sasco Buju Banton, Buju Banton - The Early Years (90-95) Mavado, Mavado Masterpiece These 3 albums showcase the talents of the very best that Dancehall has to offer. All three artists have heavily influenced our progression as artist, lyrical and performance wise. We generally gravitate towards high energy which the albums offer. Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Above the Sky” This song perfectly encapsulates who we are artists, high energy, slick rhymes, and explosive riddim. The song showcases how versatile we are as it is an Amapiano influenced Dancehall banger. We go heavy on the lyrics whilst maintain musical clarity. What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? We have had several highlights, including being featured in music publications in NZ and Aus, and being nominated for music awards in Australia and Zimbabwe. We have performed alongside amazing artists including, Oliver Mtukudzi, General Levy etc. Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? We are yet to really crack the festival scene, which is next on our to do list. The release of our album, Killing Softly, and the enlistment of our live band, Big Shotz, will guarantee this for us. We are looking to hit major fests globally.
