The Brooklyn-based band Rips are students of the music made in New York during the '70s and their dual-guitar attack and twisting melodies call to mind great bands like Television and the Feelies. Formed in 2013, the publicity shy quartet built a following in the city by playing a ton of shows, both as headliners and as openers for similar-sounding bands like Sauna Youth, Terry Malts, and Parquet Courts. That group's Austin Brown produced the first Rips album with a no-frills style that highlighted their guitar interplay and post-punk energy. A self-titled record was released by the Brighton, U.K. record label Faux Discx in 2017. ~ Tim Sendra
