About Peter Sellers and the Hollywood Party

No, not the Peter Sellers. This goofball Italian group (which did not even include a member using the pseudonym of Peter Sellers) was apparently the alter ego of the Subterranean Dining Rooms, a totally obscure band unknown even to voracious fanzine readers, who produced some of the best unheard underground rock records of the late '80s. Peter Sellers had a much more normal sound than the Dining Rooms, although still not sounding close to mainstream over- or underground rock. Their arrangements also put considerably more emphasis on electric instruments and percussion (as opposed to the drummer-less Dining Rooms), with cheerier and more upbeat folk-rockish material. Still, in the unlikely event that you've heard and enjoyed the Subterranean Dining Rooms, you'll find the 1989 Peter Sellers LP To Make a Romance Out of Swiftness an enjoyable supplement, if you can find it. ~ Richie Unterberger
