Penny's Pet Dragonfly

Formed in Las Vegas in 1998, Penny's Pet Dragonfly is a melodic alternative rock unit along the lines of Radiohead, Smashing Pumpkins, and Better Than Ezra. Two of Dragonfly's four members, lead singer/rhythm guitarist Micah Tamblyn and lead guitarist Eric Koch, are ex-members of an acoustic-oriented duo called Syris, which had been playing the Vegas coffeehouse circuit when it started working with drummer Brad Bianco in 1998 -- Penny's Pet Dragonfly was formed when Tamblyn and Koch decided to go electric and work with Bianco and bassist Jason Jamiel on a full-time basis. After creating a buzz on the Vegas rock scene, Dragonfly signed with a Bay Area indie called Orange Peal Records and recorded its debut album, In a Frail Daydream, in 1999. The CD was available online for several months before becoming available in stores in early 2000. ~ Alex Henderson
