About Melvin Jones

In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. After failing a music theory entrance test in the 6th grade, I was assigned the tuba as my instrument. Since the tuba was too expensive for us, I ended up with a dented-up $50 trumpet from a pawn shop. And so began my musical career! What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Al Green, Let's Stay Together Miles Davis, Kind of Blue Roy Hargrove Quintet, With the Tenors of Our Time I grew up listening to Al Green as he represents my hometown, Memphis, TN. Miles Davis really introduced me to the power and coolness of Black American Music...WITH A TRUMPET! And Roy showed me that someone who looked like me could do the same. Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Angels” This song represents an effective combination of all of the music that has influenced me (Gospel, Jazz, R&B). So I arranged and recorded it to make a statement about the connectedness of all music which I think can translate well beyond the stage.
