About Lightdreams

Canada's LightDreams was a psych and space rock project centered around singer/songwriter Paul Marcano, along with additional songwriters Andre Martin and Cory Rhyon, lead guitarist John Walker, sax player Tim Moore, and bassist Art Lowe. Formed in 1980, LightDreams showcased Marcano's Beatlesque pop with songs directly influenced by physicist Gerard K. O'Neill's 1977 book about humans living in space, The High Frontier: Human Colonies in Space. The group's sole LP, 1981's Islands in Space, was recorded on a TEAC four-track Portastudio, and was followed by a 1982 cassette titled 10,001 Dreams. Marcano and Martin then produced Airbrushing Galaxies together in 1983. They continued working together, eventually teaming up again in 1993 for First Time Back. LightDreams remained obscure, but gradually developed a cult following. In 2015, cassette label Constellation Tatsu released a 90-minute tape containing Marcano's ambient composition "Valley Flutes" and Martin's "As It IS." Islands in Space and 10,001 Dreams were both reissued by Got Kinda Lost in 2016. ~ Matt Collar
