About Lew Stone
A self-taught musician, Lew Stone developed into a first-class pianist and arranger, and led one of the U.K.’s leading dance bands of the 1930s. After acting as a freelance arranger for many name bands he took over Roy Fox’s band in '32. They recorded a selection of hot titles throughout the '30s. He also recorded several sentimental ballads with Al Bowlly, including Stone’s only U.S. hit, "Isle Of Capri." He also served as musical director for West End shows, and in 1959 he assembled a sextet, which he led until 1967.
