Scrappy Floridian punk-poppers Hey Monday were in the first wave of bands to be signed to emo mogul Pete Wentz’s Decaydance label, and like Fall Out Boy, they rock out with economical hooks and a surplus of moxie. Singer Cassadee Pope’s vocals can be sugary and ferocious in equal measure, while Mike Gentile’s guitar riffs tightrope appealingly between precision and sloppiness. The band’s first release in 2008 was powered by the potent hit single “Homecoming,” and supported by a national tour opening for labelmates the Cab. The band spent the first half of 2010 recording new songs, and released the six-song EP Beneath It All in August. ~ Paula Carino
