James Williams, better known as DL Down3r (or Downer), is a Californian rapper whose tracks range from playful party anthems to more sensitive, introspective material reflecting a difficult life. His first single, "Suga Boom Boom," became a viral hit after it was released in 2015. Williams' path to stardom has been a long, tumultuous one. He grew up in tough areas of Los Angeles and spent ten years in a federal prison before being released in 2010. After working in the oil industry for several years, he began making music in late 2014, rapping about his life experiences over tracks ranging from laid-back G-funk to boisterous trap. He signed to DJ Central Records and released the single "Suga Boom Boom," a studio version of an earlier freestyle, in July 2015. The song quickly accumulated millions of streams, and became a heavily requested radio hit as well. From there, he continued releasing singles and EPs, including When We Ride (2015) and Side Chick (2018), in addition to opening for Coolio, Brown Boy, Jay Tablet, and others. ~ Paul Simpson
