Australian hip-hop sensation Day1 blends R&B and rap and draws from influences from around the world to create a sound all his own. The South Brisbane native started making music at the age of nine, inspired by his Maori father, who loved to sing and play the guitar. Day1 first made a name for himself locally by mixing the sweet melodies of American artists like L.A.’s Ty Dolla $ign with Chicago drill beats and a diamond-sharp flow pattern reminiscent of Canadian artist Drake. With breakthrough R&B-rap singles like 2019’s “BOSS,” 2020’s “Riding”, and 2021’s “King of My City” and “Energy,” Day1 helped to define the sound of Brisbane rap, along with fellow melodic MCs like Creed Tha Kid, Youngn Lipz and Davey. Day1 has taken cues from heroes near and far to help Australian rap go international.
