About Curtis Symphony Orchestra

The Curtis Symphony Orchestra, sometimes stylized as the Symphony Orchestra of the Curtis Institute of Music or Curtis Institute of Music Symphony Orchestra, is composed of students selected by audition to attend the tuition-free institution. Long affiliated with the Philadelphia Orchestra, former members of the Curtis Symphony have appeared as soloists with and as members of major orchestras throughout the world, including becoming principal players in every major American orchestra. In 2022, Osmo Vänskä led the orchestra on a recording of Ravel's Scheherazade. The following year, Vänskä led the Curtis Symphony on a program featuring Julia Perry's Study for Orchestra and Schumann's Piano Concerto in A minor, Op. 54, with Curtis alum Amy Yang.
