About Alvvays

Alvvays’ primary singer-songwriter, Molly Rankin, is the daughter of John Morris Rankin, a fiddler with Celtic folk family band The Rankin Family. ∙ The band chose the unique spelling for their name because there was another group called Always already signed to a major label. ∙ Molly Rankin and keyboardist Kerri MacLellan, who grew up next door to each other, bonded over Alanis Morissette’s Jagged Little Pill as kids. ∙ Their second album, Antisocialites, won the 2017 Juno Award for Alternative Album of the Year. ∙ Molly Rankin wrote the songs on Antisocialites alone in an abandoned schoolroom on the Toronto Islands. ∙ Both Antisocialites and their self-titled debut were shortlisted for the Polaris Music Prize, a Canadian award recognizing artistic merit regardless of sales, genre, or record label.
