Eleven albums in, Machine Head continue to hone their patented blend of Bay Area thrash, neck-snapping nu metal and hyper-modern rock. Led by vocalist, guitarist and mastermind Robb Flynn, Machine Head’s revamped lineup features new guitarist Reece Scruggs alongside long-serving bassist Jared MacEachern and semi-recent drummer Matt Alston. Single “UNBØUND” revolves around a massive power groove peppered with flashy guitar pyrotechnics, while follow-up “BØNESCRAPER” sees Flynn chanting a chorus designed for huge festival sing-alongs. Elsewhere, “NOT LØNG FOR THIS WØRLD” dips into wistful radio-rock territory, while “SCØRN” closes the record with a mournful, keyboard-driven ballad.
