Rhythm of Love

Rhythm of Love

Kylie Minogue’s third studio album arrived at the start of a new decade—and, appropriately enough, hinted at the broader course she would take in the future. As she did with her first two full-lengths, Kylie recorded 1990’s Rhythm of Love with the glossy ’80s hitmakers Stock Aitken Waterman, leading to effervescent disco-pop songs such as “Step Back In Time” and the house-music-influenced “Better the Devil You Know”. However, she had a greater say in Rhythm of Love’s musical direction, steering the album’s sound by co-writing multiple songs. Highlights include the ’80s electro throwback “Count the Days” and the funky title track, both written with long-time Madonna collaborator Stephen Bray, and “The World Still Turns”, an adult-contemporary pop ballad penned with Martika collaborator Michael Jay. Rhythm of Love finds Kylie starting to take the reins of what would be a long and fruitful career.
