Released in 1994, Officium was the extraordinary sound of the four male voices of The Hilliard Ensemble blended with the improvisations of jazz saxophonist Jan Garbarek. This live recording, made in 2014 as the Hilliard undertook their final tour, finds them returning to that winning combination at the Collegiate Church in Bellinzona, Switzerland. Early music, jazz and modern music swirl around and fuse into something new and haunting, the chemistry between singers and saxophonist completely transforming many of these pieces. The church’s gorgeous acoustics add striking majesty to these mesmerising performances.
