Sitting at the crossroads of country blues and modern pop, Keb’ Mo’ communes with the ghosts of the Delta while forging its own unique path. The titular singer and guitarist balances grit and polish enviably; his funky reimagining of Robert Johnson’s “Come in My Kitchen” manages to feel both lowdown and exceptionally sophisticated. He’s wildly versatile, too: “Don’t Try to Explain” is heartbreaking Southern soul, while the confessional “Anybody Seen My Girl” shows off his gifts as a folky singer/songwriter.
