16 Songs, 54 Minutes

EDITORS’ NOTES

Kylie Minogue has made a career out of glittery, joyful pop songs that beg to be played under a disco ball. But after 13 albums, it was time to try something new. Our Princess of Pop went searching for inspiration and found herself line dancing in Nashville, where she mined the city’s storytelling techniques and summoned her inner Dolly Parton. Golden is a country-meets-club jubilee that praises dreaming big (“Raining Glitter"), taking chances (“Shelby '68”) and singing at the top of your lungs (“Rollin’”). Album standout “Stop Me from Falling”—lit with rhythmic tambourine, high-pitched harmonies and chiming piano—is as escapist and life-affirming as a night under Music Row’s neon lights.

Unexpected...

This new sound will divide many fans. If "Dancing" is any indication of the album as a whole, it will mark the dawn of a new and mature attitude towards music. It's not disco or club and that may upset many fans who have waited for a club banger after waiting so long between albums. "Kiss Me Once" was a disappointment to many fans and rather forgettable and many were hoping for a return to "Light Years" or "Fever"

But Kylie will be 50 years old this year and to me this is a declaration to the world that she's ready for a new chapter and the chance to spread her wings. The words "Kylie" and "Nashville" aren't supposed to go together and yet it works.

I have this to say...It's the first time in a long time I've been able to play a new Kylie song on repeat. If "Dancing" is representative of the new album then I say let the "Golden" era begin

A Winner

Kylie goes a little bit Disco Dolly Parton with a twist. Think Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift or even Avicii. She’s already said that you won’t see her sitting on a bale of hay on her next tour & she’ll absolutely remix it for the clubs (so everyone settle down)... but it was definitely time to try something new like this. Remember when she shocked everyone with “Impossible Princess”... & now its considered a Kylie classic. I like this a lot.
