LO LA RU

LO LA RU

Aussie indie quintet The Rubens enlisted the help of long-time Run the Jewels producers and brothers Wilder Zoby and Little Shalimar on LO LA RU. But instead of aggressive hip-hop, the duo gets The Rubens to show us their soul. LO LA RU, named after a fictional nation they created, seasons the band’s chops with splashes of colour and pronounced knock. “Million Man” opens the album with finger-snaps and vocal harmonies, while “Never Ever” is a first-class duet with Sarah Aarons (the co-author of megahit “Stay” for Zedd and Alessia Cara). It’s a sweet give-and-take that indicates The Rubens are comfortable navigating pop territory.
