Early in 2023, Diljit Dosanjh became the first artist from Punjab to perform at Coachella, signalling Punjabi music’s arrival on the global stage. Punctuating that statement, his album Ghost has all the makings of an accessible yet boundary-breaking set. Summery synths (“Drowning”, “Bad Habits”) and dance-floor-ready beats (“Feel My Love”) support a confident Dosanjh throughout. He also expresses his love for all things American, like on the opening banger “Ghost” and driving anthem “Daytona”. Hip-hop flourishes abound on “Poppin’” and “Icon”, while Dosanjh roars on “Jatt Vailly”—before pulling back for the subtle “Psychotic”.
