EDITORS’ NOTES

Coleção takes a fresh approach to the greatest-hits routine, surveying the career of Brazilian singer Marisa Monte through outtakes and collaborations. Though descended from bossa nova and '60s Tropicalia, Monte has never been a strict traditionalist, peppering her music with playful left turns and unusual arrangements. Even at her most plainly beautiful—the Caetano Veloso-penned “Nu Com Minha Música” and “A Primera Pedra”—she seems elusive, singing from somewhere a couple of inches off the ground.
