Lise de la Salle, a pianist with a fine pedigree in Johann Sebastian Bach’s music, explores his influence on composers over many centuries. She’s no slave to period manners, and Bach’s own Italian Concerto is played with a fine sense of fantasy. De la Salle then takes in music by Liszt, Busoni, Poulenc and a trio of pieces by Thomas Encho, a composer as at home with jazz as in the world of classical music. A clever and beautifully executed album.
