Backroad Nation

Backroad Nation

As a Corryong boy that became one of Australia’s favourite country-music sons, Lee Kernaghan finds inspiration in the nation’s dustier drives on 2019’s Backroad Nation. Kernaghan fires up the engines right from the titular opening track, as he sings of his love for the land that raised him over poignant, arena-ready country-pop: “It’s a homeland song that when you’re gone calls you home again.” Robby X lends her soulful pipes to “Where I Wanna Be”, where the two globe-trotting voices find true home in each other. Amid the ripping electric guitar and twangy banjo of “Wheels”, Kernaghan puts the pedal to the metal to deliver a little country rock. And there’s a pub sing-along classic in the making on the rollicking closer, “Till It Ends”, where Kernaghan is joined by countrymen The Wolfe Brothers.
