Native sons of the former East Germany, Alexander Gerlach and Kai Paul—a.k.a. Lexy & K-Paul—met in 1997, the year that Berlin's Love Parade first topped the million-visitor mark. Fittingly, the duo's contribution to dance music has been to fuse techno with pop, much like their mentors Westbam, pushing a formerly underground style proudly into the spotlight. Informed by the era's unhinged Mayday parties and fuelled by energetic beats, '80s-inspired synths and electroclash sass, their records capture European house music at its most colourful and carefree.
