Taking their cue from art-rock and their name from a Roxy Music song, Ladytron formed in 1999 in Liverpool. They blended post-punk aesthetics with synthesisers and drum machines, and despite being swept along with the electroclash movement that coincided with their emergence, their ambition, songwriting and range meant they easily outlasted the fad. They built a cult following and found critical acclaim, developing from the dark electronica of 2002's Light & Magic to a more muscular sound on Velocifero. Their most recent record, Gravity the Seducer, dropped in 2011.
