Jack River: Visionary Women

In honour of International Women’s Day, Apple Music is showcasing the invaluable work and inspiring stories of music’s visionary women to create special playlists featuring the artists and songs that inspire them. Jack River—Australian singer-songwriter Holly Rankin—has selected songs that, in her words, “drive me to feel at home in the urgency of the times we are living in, but also give me the space and time to sit back and enjoy the strange ride,” she tells Apple Music of her picks, a mix of psychedelic pop, folk and spoken word. “In this playlist you’ll find voices that defined a generation of social change and revolutionary thinking, and the voices of now who are blazing new vision in music and beyond.” Spinifex Gum, “Marliya (feat. Marliya)” “The Marliya Choir are working on some of the most important prose and lyricism in our country.” Shungudzo, “It’s a good day (to fight the system)” “Shungudzo writes of the urgent feeling at the heart of the time we are living in.” Sycco, “Dribble” “Sycco brilliantly captures the psychedelic time we are living in, sounds like a pool of diamonds or a coral reef at night.” Cassandra Jenkins, “Hard Drive” “This poem and song perfectly narrate an afternoon dream. A very good meditation track if you so need it.” Lana Del Rey, “Chemtrails Over the Country Club” “I love how she softly weaves activism and questioning of our times into her Californian dreamscape.”
