Swedish metal bands are known for mixing styles, and In Flames are no exception. Since emerging from Gothenburg in the '90s, they've explored melodic death metal, prog metal, metalcore, alt-metal, and just about every combination of those. The 2006 track “Take This Life” captures their metal fusion at its most extreme, with walloping double-kicks and guttural shrieks flanked by ornate fretwork. On the spectrum's other end, “Come Clarity” is a breathtaking power ballad with Anders Fridén's emotional pleas soaring high above rippling acoustic guitars and keys.
