About Skeeter Davis
Skeeter Davis was one of the first successful female country crossover artists. Intially finding success as one half of the close-harmony singing Davis Sisters, Skeeter embarked upon a solo career when her partner, Betty Jack Davis, died in an automobile accident shortly after the duo scored its first hit. In 1962, with the help of Chet Atkins, the Kentucky native practically invented pop-country with her classic hit single “The End of the World” and recorded steadily though the 1960s, '70s and '80s. Though her personal eccentricity and stylistic inconsistency sometimes undermined her professional aspirations, this same unpredictably made for interesting music, a highlight of her career being a 1985 collaboration with cult rock band NRBQ. A soulful vocalist and enigmatic talent, Davis’s hard-to-categorize work continues to intrigue fans from both the country and pop music words.
