About Kathy Stewart

b. c. 1970, USA. Although originally based in New York, Stewart attracted a following in the UK and has spent many years resident there. She has worked with John Miller and often with guitarist-songwriter Allan Bertram who produced her Celestial Shoes. This album was an important factor in her winning the 2000 HMV British Country Music Award as Rising Star. In addition to composing many of the songs she sings, such as ‘A Piece Of Alleluia’, Stewart has also composed for the theatre and appears regularly on television in the Borders region of southern Scotland. Her trio, the Frequent Flyers, is rounded out by Ken Kennedy (bass, harmonica, vocals) and Colin McFarlane (guitar, bass, mandolin). With Bertram, she has toured extensively in the UK, appearing at many folk and country music festivals, and she has also performed in Spain.
