This stunning debut showcases the diverse vocal talents of Bebe, a Spanish singer who’s equally at ease singing and rapping. Minimalist beats and subtle electronics work through slowly unfolding melodies that draw variously from flamenco, hip-hop and (sometimes) ska, making for funky tracks like “Siete Horas”. These well-crafted and masterfully produced songs draw listeners in with their intimate delivery and subtle touches, like faux vinyl crackles on the haunting “Razones (A capella)”. But it’s the flamenco-rooted “Malo”, in which Bebe unsheathes her vocal claws in a hip-hop break, that best shows off those pipes.
