About Farzin

Distinctive and risk-taking, Farzin Farhadi is a soprano and alto saxophonist/composer whose melodic jazz-pop has been influenced by Wayne Shorter, John Coltrane and Jan Garbarek as well as traditional Persian and Middle Eastern music. The lush, soft nature of Farzin's music earned the saxman (who simply goes by his first name) some airplay on new adult contemporary stations of the 1990s, and yet his Aladdin releases In a Far Away Land and My World are too substantial and improvisatory to be considered elevator music. Farzin, who is of Persian/Iranian descent, grew up in Washington D.C. and studied at the Berklee College of Music in Boston before moving to Los Angeles in the early 1990s. In L.A., Farzin signed with the Persian-oriented Aladdin label, which released In a Far Away Land in 1995 and My World in 1997. ~ Alex Henderson
