Spoek Mathambo Essentials

Spoek Mathambo tosses dub reggae, electro, post-punk, grime and rap furiously into a mixing bowl, cramming in some South African house music to create Township Tech. But in any language or genre, Mathambo shapes a stunningly widescreen mould of South African culture today, becoming a loudspeaker for youth. His cover of Joy Division's “She's Lost Control” was awarded the Young Director Award at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. Accolades aside, the future sounds of township tech are bubbling over into the electronic world, and all you have to do is dance.
