Bolstered by tongue-in-cheek lyrics, the rhythmic Latin rock of Los Auténticos Decadentes is shot through with a dose of sardonic wit. The Argentine group frequently juxtapose gentle reggae with tall tales, as in “Loco (Tu Forma de Ser)”, where mellow bongos and sunny riffs vie with a flippant love song. “El Pájaro Víó el Cielo y Se Voló” brings to mind the knowing irony adopted by US group the Mavericks, featuring Spanish guitar and a dramatic arrangement, while their ska side comes out to play on “Besándote”s off-beat groove and “La Guitarra”s bolshy brass action.
