Antidote

This week, Pale Waves head up Antidote with fierce new single “Perfume”—a shimmering indie-pop ballad that previews the band’s just-announced fourth album, Smitten, due on 20 September. “The intro captivated the entire mood that followed with this track,” Pale Waves’ lead vocalist and guitarist Heather Baron-Gracie tells Apple Music. “The song is about desperately wanting to make a woman mine—it [sounds] romantic and feminine, so lyrically, I followed that.” In May, the Manchester quartet took to London’s The 100 Club for a surprise show for fans and ended with a first play of the track. “Playing ‘Perfume’ for the first time to them was really special,” Baron-Gracie says. “I’m now looking forward to releasing this, more than anything—but also, taking [new] songs on tour. We’ve worked hard on this album and we can’t wait for it to be everyone else’s.” Hear “Perfume” now, alongside music from Glass Animals, Soft Launch and beabadoobee. Like all those artists, Antidote is always evolving—so keep checking back, and if you hear something you like, add it to your library.
