Purple City

About Purple City

Following the precedent set by G-Unit and the Diplomats crew, the Harlem-based collective known as Purple City entered the rap game in the early 2000s with a series of successful mixtapes. Centered on three main members (Shiest Bub, Un Kasa, and underground veteran MC/producer Agallah) and including a changing roster of hardcore MCs, Purple City is a loose collective of artists connected to the Purple City Production label. Their impressive street sales without major label distribution led to a deal with Babygrande, a best-of compilation entitled ROAD THE RICHES, and an international project, PARIS TO PURPLE CITY, produced by Agallah and featuring eight French rappers, in 2005. The crew’s studio LP debut, THE PURPLE ALBUM, appeared the following year.
