Tigran Hamasyan is an award-winning performer and composer who combines traditional Armenian music with American jazz, prog rock and metal. Utilising these broad influences, he creates an individual sound featuring skilful improvisations and warm vocal delivery. His 2013 album Shadow Theater features the folk ballad “The Poet” and “Road Song”, with its shifting metres, female vocals and punchy drums. Hamasyan's mastery of the piano is demonstrated by virtuoso performances on the exotic “Samsara” and in the dulcet tones of “Lilac”.
