Avoid This Recording

I mistakenly purchased this album thinking it was a later edition and was very disappointed with the result. The quality of the recording itself is very poor, the piano is almost always to far underneath the voice and in several places almost completely inaudible. The young Fischer-Dieskau is lovely but lacks the polish of his later recordings of this work. All in all if you are going to own a complete recoding Schubert's masterpiece, find one with a well balanced set up for the voice and piano. I would recommend the 1966 Deutsche Grammophon recording Fischer-Dieskau made with Jörg Demus.
