3T

YoungstaCPT’s 3T is a history lesson told by the self-proclaimed Voice of the Cape. In the same way that N.W.A.’s classic Straight Outta Compton reflected life in ’80s South Los Angeles, Youngsta’s solo debut mirrors the struggles and unique heritage of his community. "I can't be Michael Jordan or Drake but look at the noise that I make", he spits on "VOC (Extended Version)”. That noise is the inherent optimism embedded within 3T’s narrative. He’s aided by producers such as frequent collaborator J-Beatz (including the coming-of-age track “YAATIE”) as well as Egypt (the funk groover “The Cape of Good Hope”) and Michaelson (the grainy boom-bap loop “786”). “Coloureds, coloureds, coloureds, coloureds”, Youngsta chants on “Kleurling”. “I send this one out to my brothers, and all of the sisters who love us”.
